1964 Shasta Astroflyte Interior Photos Part 1

The layout of the 64 Shasta Astroflyte couldn’t be more perfect in my opinion. Shasta thought of just about everything when they designed this trailer. If you look at new trailers now a days the one thing that many in this length lack is adequate sleeping accomodations. Another thing I love about the vintage trailers is for the most part they are lighter than the new ones, thus easier to tow.
I thought I would take you on a tour of the interior. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I tell you I can step inside this and just get a sense of tranquility. It’s so light and airy. A lot of people ask me about the interior not being “original” because it’s been painted. But you know I love it and if it had ugly paneling walls I would of painted it anyway. Having antique white walls is like having a fresh canvas to work with.

OK, without delay let’s take a peek inside. When you open the door and look to the right you will see the dinette table and benches. The table is removable and the bench seats fold down to create a bed. This is a bit wider than a standard twin bed so two could actually sleep on this bed.

See that black and white checker board flooring? I love that! It just adds to the nostalgia. Here is another view of the dinette. The curtains were all handmade and I think they match nicely. The bench seats were professionally redone as well.

Above the dinette is the overhead bunk. I was surprised at just how roomy the bed up there is. It’s also wider than a standard twin so two can sleep up there. It has a ladder for climbing up and also privacy curtains which is nice. Eventually, I may change those curtains when I have time to sew some new ones. I just need to decide on what color/pattern I want to go with first. The “bed” itself consist of 3 inch memory foam which is incredibly comfortable.

  1. I fully intend to paint my interior white. 🙂 It isn't like the paint is irremovable if you ever decide to have it "original". It should be enjoyable.

  2. I have a 1965 Kit Companion and I am in love with it for the same reasons you like the Shasta. It makes sense and it feels tranquil yet cozy. I like the shape of the table leg on the dinette. Great job on getting her all ready to be loved and re-road-ready. My girl came painted and original, but the painting was done poorly and akin to the color of hot dogs and required a whole new paint job. I am not completely restoring her, so painting covered many years of wear and tear that are now inconsequential to enjoying her. I have only had 'Thelma Lou' since mid June 2011, so she is a working project, but we have used her several times for getting away and just love her. Keep up the good work It is inspiring! I have a few photos of my girl if you are interested I will be happy to share. Thank you for posting this. JF in Oregon
