61 Shasta Compact

Daisy Shasta has a new little foster sister! We picked her up yesterday and plan to restore her. She is in pretty good shape and quite solid so she won’t need a full restoration as far as replacing the interior or all the skin. She does have a boo boo on her lower hiney as you can see and I think we’ll either replace that section of skin or come up with another solution for repairing that. Her interior is all wood (Ash I believe) that is in good condition. No signs of water damage on the roof or around any windows. The door however does have some signs of rot on the lower section so that will be replaced and we’ll probably replace the skin on the outside of the door as well because she has a bit of a wrinkle on the lower portion.
Her flooring is originally and in pretty good shape, although a few tiles near the door need to be replaced. We have those ready if that is the route we take as a few tiles were taken out from under one of the bench seats (where it doesn’t show) and we could replace the damaged ones with those. However, I’m pretty partial to the black and white checked flooring. So just what we end up doing with the floor is still being debated. The wings I’ll see about removing the black paint and getting those all shiny again and once everything is done inside and out we’ll paint her exterior. I’m still debating on a color and it’s between keeping her yellow or going with a aqua on the bottom half. I love aqua! Here she is….isn’t she cute!! I can’t wait to be able to show her to you when she’s all done.

Her hiney “boo boo” is noticable in this picture. Not too bad but we’ll need to fix that. That grey spot you see…that is where a previous owner removed the paint. I suppose they were thinking of striping her paint off but probably found it to be a tedious job and gave up.

Here you can see she needs a new backsplash behind the stove.

No icebox or fridge, so she’ll get a new one in that empty spot you see. I’m thinking I’ll make a curtain to hang across that opening too.

A nice roomy closet that will fit a port-a-potty just fine.

All the wood will be sanded down and a very light stain applied.

Ugly floor, but it is original. What to do? I badly would love to see black & white checkered flooring. But some say keep it original.

She has the original canvas bunk. I haven’t got it out of the trailer to really take a look at it yet. But will.

All the window cranks work fine. She will need new cushions made for the bed and new curtain rods and curtains. Those will be fun projects (:

  2. I have the same trailer. The paint is different on the outside. I see the ice box is missing, that’s a bummer. I love the ice box. and I love the propane light in ours. I use it all the time. We never set up the table, just leave it a bed all the time.
Great trailer. We have had it for years. I bought it for $600 about 1998.
