Ok, so I’ve struggled with my cushions in the 61 Shasta Compact. First I tried to sew some sort of like pillow cases and that just didn’t work well. So I went back to an idea I had when I recovered this vintage metal crib seat.
Looks pretty good right? Nice and smooth with the fabric on there snug? The answer is simply safety pins! HA HA! Oh and lots of them. So I figured I’d give the trailer cushions one last shot and try this method. I bought 10 yards of Sunbrella aqua fabric and basically what I did was:
1. Lay the fabric down on the floor.
2. Add the long cushion.
3. Wrap the fabric on top of the cushion the long ways.
4. Overlap it, pull it tight and pin it about every 4-5 inches.
5. On the ends fold like you are wrapping a gift and pin.
Voila! Now my camera shows every wrinkle but honestly in person these turned out great!
Looks really great. You have inspired me for my 62 Compact cushions. Wish I could professional have them done, but like everyone, money too tight.
Thanks and glad I could inspire you. It's definitely the cheaper way of doing it and they turn out pretty nice. The biggest thing is just making sure you pull snug before pinning.
Hi, you did a great job! IF anyone is looking for cushion covers I can make them. I have many yrs experience in sewing and upholstery!
HI Sandra- I am interested. I can give you dimensions. Etc. If you contact me…Maybe you can give me an estimate on cost??
Thanks!-Soni
Hi, I am wondering where you got your sunbrella fabric? I want to make an awning out of it!
Thanks!
Alicia
Alicia,
I actually purchased my awning (made from Sunbrella) already made by Marti of Awnings by Marti: http://trailerawning.blogspot.com/
VELCRO!!!Just act like you are wrapping a present, sewing the velcro as you go, either by hand or with a zig zag stitch aroung the edges. You can even use checkered table cloths on most benches, an the put it all in the wash with the velcro closed up.
