I’ve been asked before if I think there is a benefit to adding diamond plating to the front of our Shasta Compact. The answer I would give would be a definite yes! Diamond plate offers protection to that lower front area on your trailer. That area is so prone to rocks and various debris flying up and hitting it. Thus, producing dings and dents on the skin.
The other benefit is it looks great! Diamond plate is the first choice over something like plain metal flashing. If you are looking to buy a trailer be wary of the ones where the seller slapped on metal flashing along the bottom front as this could be a sign that they are hiding damage. If they installed diamond plating it’s much more likely that they did so as a preventative measure against future damage. Plus if they are going the length to invest diamond plating it’s less likely they are trying to hide something as it is not cheap (but well worth the investment)!
Here are some pictures of our 61 Shasta Compact before adding the diamond plate. The lower front skin wasn’t bad but it did have a little curl in it towards the bottom that we had repaired. Wow, Buttercup has come a long way since this picture.
Here she is with new diamond plate. I’m actually thinking of adding more diamond plate so it extends up higher about another 12 inches all the way across.
A close up below.
Diamond plate is easy to install and simply attaches to the trailer via screws. It’s a great protective plating and will protect your front lower skin and it will look great for years to come!
Great idea! We’re going to do that to the inside of our door too since it’s a little bent and will take a beating.
