~ ~ THIS TRAILER IS NOW SOLD ~ ~
This is my personal trailer {Little Vintage Trailer} that is up for sale! This is a rare opportunity to own this true survivor; a 1955 Bellwood! You could be camping in this immediately!
Over the years I’ve only seen 3 other ones in online photos. So it’s not a common trailer and it’s a true “canned ham”. It was manufactured by BELLWOOD TRAILER COACH in Phoenix, Arizona. That is also where I purchased it from. The history that was passed on to me is that I am the 3rd owner. The first and second owners lived in Phoenix. So it’s spent a huge chunk of it’s lifetime in Arizona, which also means a pretty dry climate. That’s always a plus for these old camper trailers. The reason I believe these aren’t all that common is I suspect they were only built for few years before the company went out of business. I also suspect the production run on these were low numbers so in short they just didn’t make very many of them. You will get a lot of ohhs and ahhs with this trailer when camping and/or attending rallies.
I bought the trailer in 2012 from a gentleman in Phoenix, Arizona and had it flat bed shipped to me via a U-ship transporter. It is all original including the floor and even the mattress if you can believe that! The mattress is in good shape and yes I use it! I did add my own mattress topper to it but you might like it slightly firmer. The interior wood on this trailer is gorgeous! Of course it’s a 61 year old trailer so it does have a few imperfections as would be expected in a trailer this age. On the exterior it has a couple dings that are small and one small patch area on the curb side which you can barely make out in the photo. On the interior it does have some old minor water staining around the roof vent and under the front window. It’s never leaked while I have owned it. The staining wasn’t enough to prompt me to want to tear into it and replace paneling and I am a big spokes person when it comes to water damage and quick to point it out!! I am definitely comfortable in saying that for a 61 year old trailer, it’s in remarkable, solid, original condition and I wouldn’t hesitate to camp in it any time!
This trailer was also photographed by a staff photographer for the New York Times.
I think the photos will speak for themselves with this trailer. It truly does Oooooze nostalgia. Oh and check out that rear bumper! That is the only thing on this trailer (and the roof vent) that is not original. The bumper is a awesome 1955 Ford bumper and it just goes perfect with this trailer. It’s like it was made for it!
Here are some of the features:
* 11 feet long (14′ including the tongue)
* 1600 lbs
* CLEAR MI title in MY name.
* Newer tires.
* SOLID FLOOR THROUGHOUT
* Bearings repacked last year.
* Yes, I have keys for it.
* Always protected from the weather and stored under a carport.
* Interior is all original including floor (that is beautiful!) and double mattress.
* Sleeps 4 or possibly 5 if you use the canvas cot for a small child and depends on how cozy you don’t mind being.
* Tows like it’s not even there.
* I have never used the stove top nor the sink/water but both of those were tested when I first bought it.
* Yes, this trailer can be polished to a mirror shine if you wanted like an Airstream. I tried it once and did a section. Then got busy with other projects and never finished. I personally like the patina it has now.
* THE ROOF IS COMPLETELY FREE OF ANY SORT OF SEALANT. IT’S 100% bare metal. So no goop or anything to deal with….as it should be. So many vintage trailer roofs are awfu
* Has a icebox.
* Comes with custom made stove cover
* It has a beautiful original wood screen door.
* Ample storage in the compartment under the bed which is also accessed by the exterior storage hatch.
* All windows open and function as they should.
* I made custom slipcovers for the dinette seats out of drop cloths. Under those is the original white vinyl. However, on one seat the vinyl is cracked.
* NO BATHROOM. Sorry ladies but the closet, while you can’t step into it (it’s above the wheel well) stores a porta-potty or luggable loo just fine and we just pulled it out for night time emergencies.
* This trailer does not have an awning track. It doesn’t look like it ever did. What I did as you can see in the photo below is clipped my little door way awning to the rail with heavy duty, strong little clips.
* Yes, the genuine feedsack/grainsack curtains stay with the trailer.
Things that are not included:
* Any décor, cooking items, dishes or bedding.
* Small half-size table (I will share with the buyer where they can get one if they want).
* Memory foam mattress topper.
Reason I’m selling: The only reason I’m letting this trailer go is because we purchased a vintage Airstream.
Need it shipped? If you need the trailer transported, I will be happy to work with a shipper. I’ve personally used U-ship with success. In fact this very trailer came from Phoenix via a Flat bed through a U-ship transporter.
This trailer is being sold as is, where is. This is a 61 year old trailer. It is NOT perfect and I am confident that my description of it above is accurate. If you are looking for a perfectly flawless trailer this is not it. This is a vintage trailer that is in original condition and extremely good condition for it’s age. I would give it a 8 out of 10.
Price: $12,900 cash or certified bank check only. If you are out of state I will be glad to hold the trailer for up to 15 business days while you make arrangements to get it/have it shipped with a non-refundable deposit.

This photo below was taken during a photoshoot with NY Times photographer Tony Cenicola.
It was also featured in a article on The Weather Channel.
This shows you how I clipped on my little overnight awning. If someone wanted to add a proper awning rail it wouldn’t be difficult.
This photo shows you a small area where I started to polish it a few years ago just to show how nice it will shine up if you want it that way.
This original floor is almost perfect!
It has a 1955 Ford bumper that is such an awesome addition. Not only is it functional with the small rack added to hold the tire, the chrome just ads a finishing touch.
Too much excitement for him apparently!
Oh, Kelle, it is beautiful! If I were in the market…this is what I picture when I hear vintage trailer.
While I would be sad to let this go, I can’t wait to see your new trailer. P.S. I like the polished look.
I dream of this kind of thing Kelle and to own one of yours would be another dream. Knowing that it is done right and restored to perfection. I love the fact she is 61 years old with a few flaws, that gives them character.
I would love to have her in my driveway!!! I’m sad to see her go, but can’t wait to see your new Airstream. We don’t get that many lovely vintage trailers here in Victoria, BC, in fact, I just don’t see them at all. The mainland I guess, but not here. I wish I could get it Kelle, I really do. But it’s nice to dream. 🙂
best of luck with your new adventure!
Is it still for sale?
Yes, it’s available.
Hello Kelle, I have found a great metal polish for those who like to put some shine on the aluminum skins. It’s White Diamond metal polish which I get at an auto parts store. I just hand polished the upper part of a Shasta Airflyte and this removes much more oxidation than any other polish I’ve tried. Just thought I’d pass it on.
Is trailer still for sale ?
It actually just sold today.
