Cooking in a little vintage trailer

I prefer to cook outdoors when camping, but there are times when cooking inside is required. Times such as during storms or hungry kids who claim this will surely pass out any second from lack of sustenance if they don't get food immediately. So at times like that a Mother must whip up something quick and in a hurry (even though we all know they won't pass out … [Read more...]

How to reinforce the canvas bunk in a vintage trailer

Another project tackled. This one was a little scary and I'll tell you why in a moment. But before that I want to tell you about the canvas bunk that is in a Shasta Compact. It consists of two heavy steel poles and a canvas. It was made for sleeping a child I assume and sits in brackets above the bed/dinette area. I was giving a lot of thought on if that bunk … [Read more...]

Before and After Closet Shelves in a Vintage Trailer

I'm trying to get several projects done this weekend and wanted to share this one with you all. I decided that we could use some shelves in the closet. You can never have too many shelves.  We have one of those hanging closet organizers in this closet but I also really wanted some stationary ones for food and or more clothes storage.  So off to the hardware store I … [Read more...]

New Fantastic Fan Vent Installed

Who would of thought a girl could get so excited about a vent fan? Well, that girl would be me. It's the next best thing to having a A/C unit. Or so I'm told anyway. We haven't had a chance to test it out in sweltering weather yet. When we do I'll let you all know how it works. It's neat because it can either be set to suck air out of the trailer or blow air in. I … [Read more...]

Storage solution for camping and traveling

I have found out quickly that my tow vehicle doesn't have a lot of cargo room. We end up stuffing the hatch back area full to capacity and this is after packing the trailer full of things like dishes, smaller misc items, etc., So where is all this other stuff coming from? Well, it's mainly the cooler, toys, yard decorations, pillows, clothing, etc., I decided I had to … [Read more...]

Vintage trailers as a mobile business

Most of us use our vintage trailers (or any trailer, rv or camper for that matter) mainly for camping. But there are folks that are finding unique ways of using their vintage trailers for more than just camping. For example; you have the cute little Shasta Compact that is a mobile snow cone stand called Fresher Than Fresh. How cute is that?! I'm sure kids and … [Read more...]

How to recover trailer cushions the cheaters way

Ok, so I've struggled with my cushions in the 61 Shasta Compact. First I tried to sew some sort of like pillow cases and that just didn't work well. So I went back to an idea I had when I recovered this vintage metal crib seat.    Looks pretty good right? Nice and smooth with the fabric on there snug? The answer is simply safety pins! HA HA! Oh and lots of … [Read more...]

For the little girl camper that has it all!

How to convert two single beds into one large bed in a Shasta Compact

If you have a dinette like this in your trailer (Ours is a canned ham shaped 61 Shasta Compact) that doesn't allow you to pull these benches together you can make a couple modifications and it will create one huge bed. Notice mine doesn't have any legs like the newer boxy Compacts usually do. I know my cushions are 6 ft long and the trailer is what...6 feet wide? So … [Read more...]
